I apologise deeply if period talk weirds you out, but it's going to be one of those posts today, fellows.
Not all girls get period pains, and that's okay. But I am one of the unlucky who do get them so I thought that I would share with you how I tend to cope with them. Bear in mind that this is what works for me, there's absolutely no guarantee that it would also work for you but I thought it might be helpful for me to share this anyway!
1. Pain Relief Medication. I tend to use Feminax (pricey) but if I don't have any of that to hand, I will go with Ibuprofen. I used to use Paracetamol but recently I've turned to ibuprofen and I personally, tend to find it more effective. Obviously don't use it if you're allergic to it or intolerant to it or anything, but that's what tends to work for me. Also don't go crazy and overdose on it. Stick to the recommended dosage, kids!
2. Exercise. I know that you don't want to move, but trust me, exercise really does tend to help. Even just a fifteen minute walk, or going for a jog. Obviously don't force yourself to run a marathon every time it's that time of the month, just light exercise is perfect!
3. Avoid caffeine. This one really breaks my heart, I am an avid tea drinker but it just makes my cramps so much worse. I don't know what it is, but after having a cup of tea it makes me feel worse. So, during these times I tend to stick to hot chocolate or Horlicks to still have the comfort of holding a warm mug when I feel horrendous.
4. Take your mind off it. Easier said than done, I know. But read a book, watch some tv, do some cooking, do some exercise, draw. Whatever it takes. I find that if I'm distracted and entertained I don't even notice my cramps.
5. Hot Water Bottles. These should be your best friend when you have cramps. I tend to use those beanie bag things you get inside teddy bears and that you heat up in the microwave. Sadly, I no longer know where the bear is but I just apply the bag to my abdomen and lie down, chill out and listen to some music.
6. Eat. If you can, try and eat well. Lots of fruits and vegetables, you know. But treats are allowed. I personally get massive cravings for cake and chocolate. Even though you may not feel like eating, eat. It'll make you feel a hell of a lot better.
7. Shower. Everyone tells you to take a bath, but er. No thanks, mate. Just take a long, very warm shower. Use this as your time to apply the hair masks that take a really long time, have some Norah Jones on in the background. Sing.
8. Avoid alcohol. Don't do it, you'll then have cramps and a hangover to deal with and that is just horrendous. It's the absolute worst, take my word on this.
Those are my methods of dealing with period cramps, I hope they've helped in some way and I've not weirded you out!

This was a great post, maybe a bit of tmi here but my time of the month is a nightmare. I get so much pain & I get hot & cold flashes. I find that taking evening primrose oil has really helped with the pain as well as the mood swings etc. & napping also helps aha
